LARKANA, Oct 1: Sindh People’s Party Parliamentarians chief Nisar Khuhro has said that they can not expect holding of a fair election from the government, which was acting as a party.

He was speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday with Dr Safdar Abbasi.

He said that in flagrant violation of the code of conduct framed by Election Commission, the Sindh governor had gone on a whirlwind tour of several parts of the province just a few days before the polling day.

Khuhro said that in different districts of Sindh, Governor Mohammedmian Soomro offered what he called political bribe in the shape of development funds.

The governor’s close door meetings with the leaders of the king’s party spoke volumes of violation of the election laws, the PPP leader said, adding that an election cell still existed in the Hovernor’s House in Karachi.

He alleged that this was being done on the behest of President Gen Parvez Musharraf.

He said that they hoped that the Election Commission would take action against the governors’ involvement in election affairs and it would ask the governors to desist from what he called disturbing the election process.

He asked the members of European Union and Commonwealth observers whether they could expect fair polls under the prevailing circumstances, under which millions of rupees were being distributed in the name of development but the release of funds to the Nazis of the local governments has been stopped.

He said that the PPP was not afraid of such visits as the people, who stood against referendum, would foil the designs of the governors.

Dr Abbasi said that the double-standard policies of the government towards the PPP and the king’s party were an ample proof of its interference in the election process.

Woman killed: One person was killed and another was injured when eight armed bandits stormed Daiddar village near Kambar town, some 30 km off here, the other day night and opened fire after the villagers offered resistance, police confirmed on Monday.

The bandits also kidnapped three persons but released them at certain distance.

Khairan, wife of Rahmatullah Shaikh, was killed in the firing and Bismillah Khan was injured.

The injured was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Teaching Hospital.
