ISLAMABAD, Jan 8: Former Senator Saadia Abbasi, who first challenged establishment of McDonald’s outlet in Fatima Jinnah (F-9) Park two years back, on Saturday filed another petition with the Supreme Court pleading that the CDA did not follow the directives of the apex court in letter and spirit.

Making CDA and Siza Food (McDonald’s franchise holder) respondents, the petition was filed after McDonald’s again won the lease of the same land in the park where its outlet still exits.

Quoting the suo motu action of the apex court pertaining to the fast food outlet in the park, the petitioner said the construction of a citizen club and further allotment to an NGO of 4,000 square-yards in the park were in violation of the Supreme Court judgment in Moulvi Iqbal Haider vs CDA case which prohibited commercial activities in public parks and/or changing the essential characteristics of a park.

“The Supreme Court had taken notice against McDonald’s basically on a single point that it was established in the public park,” she said.

The fast food outlet, which was established in 2006 on a 33-year lease, remained controversial and was closed down on the orders of the apex court in November last year.
