SUKKUR, Jan 6: The Taluka Municipal Administration (TMA), Sukkur city, removed encroachments from Shalimar road with the help of heavy machinery and uprooted cabins fixed illegally adjacent to Mir Masoom Shah Municipal Library.

The drive against encroachments was jointly supervised by the Administrator of the TMA Sukkur City, Abdul Shakoor Mahar and Taxation Officer Agha Mutahir.

Owners of the cabins initially resisted the move due to which flow of traffic between Sukkur and Rohri remained suspended for half an hour.

The operation continued despite intervention by some of the elected representatives. The land grant staff, however, continued their work and removed cabins by using heavy machinery. Police, who were assisting the staff, took some people into custody and released them after completion of the operation.

Talking to journalists, cabin owners accused the TMA authorities of removing their cabins without any prior notice.

The administrator of the TMA told journalists that their staff had been facing difficulties to clean drains due to these cabins adding that “we have already asked them to remove encroachments voluntarily but they refused due to which this action was initiated. Two die:
