ISLAMABAD, Jan 4: The parliamentary group of PML-Q decided on Tuesday that while extending conditional support to the PPP government, the party should continue to play the role of opposition.
While accepting on Monday Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s request for support against a possible no-confidence move, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had set some conditions.
On Tuesday, Chaudhry Shujaat told reporters that the PML-Q would join forces with other opposition parties and said he had an understanding with the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in this regard.
According to sources, a majority of the party’s lawmakers supported the stance adopted by their leaders at their meeting with the prime minister on Monday.
They predicted that the prime minister would be coerced into dissolving the National Assembly even if he was not removed through a no-confidence motion or failed to take a vote ofconfidence in case of directives to the effect from the president.
