Cop among five shot dead in Ghizar

GILGIT, Sept 29: Unidentified assailants gunned down five people in Dahimal village in Ghizar district, about 180km from here, on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

They said five people — Mir Hawas, resident of Teru, Samandar Khan, resident of Phander, Nadir, resident of Phander, Niyat Jan (policeman), resident of Rauwoshan, and Shaukat Khan, resident of Gilgit, were going to village Batherte in a jeep (GLTA 5016). When they reached Dahimal village in Gopis tehsil, unidentified people opened fire on them.

All the five people were taken to a dispensary in Dahimal where they expired. Their postmortem was also conducted at the dispensary. Later, bodies were handed over to the victims relatives.

The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained. No arrest has been made in this regard.

However, the Ghizar police have registered an FIR and started investigations.
