
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Wapda shocked Army by winning the overall first position by securing 69 points with three gold medals and seven bronze medals in the wrestling event of the 31st National Games being played at Lala Rafique Sports Arena on Tuesday.
Federal Minister for Railways, Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour was the chief guest on this occasion. Provincial Minister Sports Syed Aqil Shah, Secretary General of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation Chaudry Asghar, players, officials, players and spectators were also present.
Wapda won a gold medal in the 60kg, 74kg and 120kg categories with bronze medals in 55kg, 66kg, 84kg, and 96kg. Army followed Wapda with two gold medals in the 55kg, 96kg categories and three silver medals in the 60kg, 66kg, and 74kg categories.
HEC remained at third with 45 points with two gold medals in the 66kg and 84kg categories and a silver medal in 120kg categories. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won two silver medals and a bronze medal and got 30 points. Railways got fifth position with one silver and two bronze medals.
Speaking on this occasion Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour appreciated Syed Aqil Shah for organizing such a wonderful event during the 31st National Games.
Games are vital for the youth and for promotion of peace in the country. He also lauded the officials and player of other unites who came here and trusted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
He said by involving the youth in sports, it would keep them away from bad activities.
Later, he awarded medals to the players.
