KARACHI, Sept 28: An alleged bandit was shot dead in North Nazimabad on Saturday, in what police claimed an encounter.

Two accomplices of the bandit escaped.

Police said that Shafiq bought some prize bonds in a National Saving Centre in Block-G of North Nazimabad and when he came out of the Centre he was intercepted by three armed men who tried to rob him of cash and other valuables. A police mobile, patrolling the area, noticed it and asked the bandits to surrender. Instead, the alleged bandits began firing at police and tried to escape.

Police returned the fire killing one of the three suspects on the spot. Two of the alleged bandits escaped. The body of the suspect was sent to a hospital for autopsy where he was not identified when this report was filed on Saturday night. After post-mortem, the body has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Two persons fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Saturday.

Police said that an unidentified 12-year-old boy was run over by a water tanker (JY-0018) in New Karachi’s sector 11-G. His body was sent to a hospital for autopsy. After post-mortem, the body has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

The tanker was impounded and the driver, identified as Abdul Mannan, was arrested.

A woman, Rukhsana, aged 35, died when she came under the wheels of a speeding truck (GLT-1406) at Lea Market.
