PESHAWAR, Sept 28: A tug-of-war between the senior teaching staff and a would-be principal of the Federal Government College has hit the academic activity there pretty badly.

Sources in the FG College disclosed to Dawn, that some of the senior teaching staff had written a letter of complaint to the Inspector General Training and Evaluation, General Headquarters, Rawalpindi, Lt-Gen Tauqir Zia, and the head of regional office of federal government educational institution, Cantt Garrison, Colonel Najam.

They asked the higher authorities to transfer Assistant Professor, Mohammad Fayyaz, from the college, as, according to them, he was meddling in the college administration affairs despite the presence of college Principal, Nazir Gul.

The sources said that Principal Nazir Gul would retire from service in March next year and Prof Mohammad Fayyaz, being the senior-most among the teachers, was likely to replace him. He already has experience of working in this capacity in other federal government institutions.

“Prof Mohammad Fayyaz is very strict in maintaining discipline and the teaching staff’s written complaint is an attempt to stop him from taking charge of the principal next year,” the sources said. “There is a strong group of teachers who have established their businesses. They concentrate more on their private concerns than on teaching,” the sources charged.

The row between the senior teachers and Prof Fayyaz started when he initiated strict check on the teachers’ attendance.
