GUJRANWALA, Dec 21: The Cantonment police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested three college students involved in kidnapping of a filling station owner's son for ransom and recovered from them the money they had received from the boy's family.

The police said Haider Ali, son of Anwar Ali, was kidnapped when he was on his way home from school four days ago. The kidnappers demanded Rs1 million from the family to release the boy.

The kidnappers, however, released the boy after receiving a Rs150,000 ransom from his father.

The police said the suspects identified as Kausar, Nadeem and Mudassar, all resident of Talwandi Khajoorwali village and students of the local government commerce college, admitted during interrogation that they had received Rs150,000 in cash from Haider's father as first installment while talks were going on for the payment of the remaining amount. Motorcycle-rickshaw owners and drivers held a demonstration at Gondlanwala Chowk by parking their vehicles in middle of GT Road after a warden beat up a driver on Tuesday.

Ilyas had parked his motorcycle-rickshaw near Gondlanwala Chowk to pick passengers when warden Qaiser manhandled him and later issued him a fine ticket.

Rickshaw drivers and owners later gathered on the spot and threw traffic out of gear for an hour. They also chanted slogans against the city traffic police. They said the wardens were issuing them fine tickets to benefit owners of private buses.

They demanded that the warden who manhandled the motorcycle-rickshaw driver be suspended from service.

The demonstrators dispersed when Model Town DSP Abdul Qayyum Gondal assured them institution of an inquiry against the warden. CNG:

Commuters and passengers faced a great deal of inconvenience owing to suspension of gas supply to 300 filling stations on Monday and Tuesday.

Owners of the CNG stations demanded that gas supply should not be suspended for two consecutive days as promised by the prime minister during a meeting with officials of the CNG Association in Islamabad two weeks ago.
