KARACHI, Dec 21: A worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, better known as MQM-Haqiqi, was gunned down in the Landhi area on Tuesday, police and party sources said.

They said that 40-year-old Saleem Bandhani, a worker of the Aamir Khan-led faction of the MQM-Haqiqi, was first kidnapped in Bandhani Colony, Landhi and later found shot dead in Zamanabad within the remit of the Awami Colony police station.

The police said that the body, which was found along the footpath in the Zamanabad area, was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The victim sustained three bullet wounds in the head, chest and abdomen. He was said to be shot from a very close range.The police expressed unawareness about the motive and the people behind the killing.

However, a spokesman for the Aamir Khan-led faction of the MQM-H said that the victim was targeted because of his political association.

“He was a worker of our Unit-87 of Landhi Sector of the party's organizational structure,” said the spokesman. “This is the second such killing this month alone. In the first week of December a senior member of the party was killed in similar fashion.”
