Everybody’s entitled to their opinion, and Ali Azmat may have become a bit of an over-opinionated political being of late, bordering on middle age. Rest assured he can still belt out exceedingly listenable tunes. It’s a sheer delight lending ears to his new offering, Bum Phata. Not because the song has socio-political overtones. Not because it goes with whatever Ali Azmat deems right. But because it sounds a genuine foot-tapping, head-banging, good song. You can ignore the occasional screeching and howling of vocals, for it’s in the lower key that he hits the right note.

Here’s the thing: in the recent past he made some really forgettable numbers. Bum Phata ain’t one of them. It has groove and masti tinged with a pinch of thoughtfulness. Sing!
