KARACHI: Pakistan’s penalty- corner expert Sohail Abbas said on Monday that winning the Asian Games gold in Guangzhou, China, was a real high point of his career and he will be looking to earn many more laurels for the country in the coming years.

“I have always dreamt of accomplishing something special for Pakistan but, unfortunately, it couldn’t come earlier,” he said in an interview here.

“In the past, luck eluded me in mega events but this time, due to the blessings of Almighty, we won the gold and I also contributed towards it, which was great,” he said.

Both Sohail and Rehan scored one goal apiece against Malaysia in the final to give Pakistan its first gold medal in the Asian Games in 20 years.

“I know I have scored the highest number of international goals in history. But winning gold by beating Malaysia was a different feeling all together,” he said.

Sohail thanked the prime minister for supporting the players but disclosed that he was yet to receive Rs500,000 that were announced for him on the occasion of completing 300 goals.

He dispelled the impression that he was not good enough to carry till the 2012 London Olympics.

“I am quite fit and know how to maintain my fitness,” Sohail said.

“I want to finish my career by bringing glory and honour to the country in Olympics,” Sohail, who missed the 2008 Beijing Olympics said.
