Anti-harassment legislation

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has asked media agencies to comply with anti-sexual harassment legislation 2010.

This was stated during a meeting of the national implementation watch committee on anti-sexual harassment law formed from the platform of National Commission on the Status of Women. The committee includes members from the government, private sector, media and civil society.

The electronic media organisations have been asked to form a three-member committee to implement the law, adopt a code of conduct and display it prominently to make it accessible to all, Chairperson of the committee Dr Fouzia Saeed told Dawn after the meeting on Wednesday.

Earlier, during the meeting, Dr Fouzia expressed her satisfaction on the implementation progress made by regulatory bodies so far. She stressed proactive role of the media to unveil the actual situation in hospitals, police stations, courts and public and private offices. —Staff Reporter

Road safety seminar held

TAXILA, Dec 1: National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) on Wednesday organised a one-day road safety seminar at Comsats Institute of Information Technology at Wah Cantt.

A large number of students, faculty members and other officials of the education department attended the seminar.

Sector commander of M-1 Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tahir Khan said seminars play pivotal role in creating awareness of road safety among the road users. — Correspondent

PPP workers asked to unite

FATEHJANG, Dec 1: The 44th founding day of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was celebrated here Tuesday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Tehsil President PPP Haji Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, Ahmed Hassan Advocate and Rahat Ali Advocate asked the workers to follow the principles of party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

They paid tributes to the party founders including Mr Bhutto, Mubashar Hassan, J.A. Raheem and Meraj Mohammad Khan.

They called upon the workers to promote unity in their ranks. They regretted that after winning elections party leaders were not caring for the workers.

A cake was cut by PPP founding workers including Haji Ishitaq Ahmed Khan, Sardar Zaheer Khan and Qazi Gulzar Hussain on the occasion. A large number of people attended the function. — Correspondent

120 bags of sugar seized

CHAKWAL, Dec 1: District Officer Revenue Sadat Hasan had recovered 120 bags of sugar from the custody of a sugar dealer here on Wednesday, it has been learnt.

Mr. Sadat had also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the dealer. He said that strict action would be taken against hoarders and profiteers. — Correspondent

Removal of wall chalking

ATTOCK, Dec 1: The district Police officer (DPO) Dr Mohammad Akhtar Abass has directed strict legal action against violators of code of conduct for Muharram to avoid any religious disharmony.

While chairing a meeting at Jand Police circle on Wednesday, the DPO asked the police officials to remove all hate walk chalking. Moreover, construction material and hanging electricity wires and any other kind of hurdles on the routes of processions should be removed before the start of Muharram. — Correspondent
