Hailstorm hits Swabi district

SWABI, Sept 24: A hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain have destroyed standing crops in the district, disturbed power supply and flooded the low-lying localities on Monday night.

The badly-affected villages, which had already been declared calamity-hit by the provincial government, include Ismaila, Darra, Shah Mansoor, Jhanda, Zaida, Dagai, Gandaf, Malakabad, Ghahai, Dhobian, Khunda, Yaqubi Chak Yar Hussain, Bezargai, Anbar, Panj Dheri, Jangi Dher, Hund, Lahor Sharqi, Lahor Gharbi, Manki, Tano, Sodher, Sadray, Urmal Dheri and Ghanzi Kot.

The hailstorm also resulted in disrupting the power supply to the entire district.

It was restored to the main city areas in four hours, but the far-flung areas remained without the utility for about eight hours.

District Nazim, Sher Zaman Sher has demanded of the provincial government to provide financial assistance to the farmers, whose sole source of income had been badly affected by recent torrential rains.
