MULTAN, Sept 21: The Pakistan People’s Party has criticized the Election Commission for what its provincial deputy secretary information Khwaja Rizwan Alam says showing double standards.

In a statement, he alleged that due to the weak position of PML-QA candidates the Punjab governor had himself launched their campaign under cover of the inauguration of development projects. “The governor is clearly committing pre-poll rigging,” he added.

Similarly, Rizwan said, the handing over of powers of the offices of Multan district Nazim and Sadar tehsil Nazim to the bureaucracy was an extremely biased act of the government.

He rejected the official plea that acting nazims of the local councils could not elect officiating nazims within 10 days of the resignation of the zila and tehsil Nazimeen.

He said that government move was ridiculous in nature as none of the 40 tehsil councils across the country had so far convened their meetings to elect officiating Nazimeen after the resignation of their nazimeen.

He said similarly the pro-PPP district nazimeen of Bahawalpur and Toba Tek Singh had been served with show cause notices on a fabricated allegation that they were participating in the electioneering of some candidates.

He said on the other hand the nazimeen of Vehari, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan city tehsil administration were daily addressing public meetings of PML-Q and Millat Party candidates in their respective domains but the government had turned a blind eye towards their activities.
