No votes if drain not built: Jirga

Published September 22, 2002

SWABI, Sept 21: A Jirga at the Ahadkhan village has said the people would not cast vote on Oct 10 if a drain was not constructed in the area.

The Jirga, which met here the other day, decided that the villagers would vote in favour of that party which would construct the main drain in the village or if the district government construct it then they would go to polls else would stay at home.

Haji Sher Mohammed, presiding over the Jirga, said that during the previous general elections and local council polls various leaders promised to construct the drain, but after getting to the power corridors they declined to do it on various pretexts.

Mr Sher asserted that the district Nazim and union council Nazim during their visits to the area had promised to construct it at an estimated cost of Rs400,000 but later said that lack of funds would not permit them to do so.
