PESHAWAR: A bomb exploded near the house of a slain anti-Taliban tribal elder in Adezai on Monday, killing two people and wounding three others, police said.

The attack may have been aimed at the late elder's son, who has vowed to carry out his father's mission of defeating the extremist militants. The Taliban have killed hundreds of tribal leaders who have defied their bid to impose an extreme version of Islam in the Afghan border region.

The blast occurred in the Adezai area, some 12.5 miles south of Peshawar city. One of the dead was a prayer leader from a nearby mosque, police officer Abdul Ghaffar Khan said.

The late elder, Abdul Malik, was killed in a suicide attack last year, the officer said. His son, Noor Malik, was getting in his car to leave the residence when the attack occurred, but he was not hurt. One of his bodyguards, however, was wounded.
