PESHAWAR, Sept 19: The telecommunications link between Peshawar and other parts of the province remained cut off from rest of the country for five hours due to a major fault in the PTCL’s fibre optic system on Thursday.

A Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd official told Dawn that fibre optic cables were badly damaged due to the ongoing road expansion work near the Haji Camp on the Grand Trunk Road. “It was a severe damage,” the official said.

He said the fault in the communication network developed around 10.30am and the system remained out of order till 4pm.

The company’s engineers were rushed to the site and most of the connections were restored by 5pm, he added.
