KARACHI, Sept 19: The acting Chairman of Towels Manufacturers Association S.M.A. Rizvi on Thursday said Central Board of Revenue was ignoring the Karachi-based exporters as far as refund of drawbacks was concerned.

The CBR is reported to have refunded around Rs 14.35 billion during July-August.

In a statement, the acting chairman, has asked the board to give break-up of sales tax refund paid to each province as the exporters of Karachi complain that they were given very low amount compared to high amounts paid by them towards taxes.

He said that the CBR senior officers had said that extra refunds could not be released to exporters as they did last year in order to clear the backlog of the previous year.

Rizvi said this means that exporters’ complaint is completely justified that huge amounts of sales tax and customs refund are stuck up with the CBR.

“This is not fair on the part of the government to withhold sales tax refunds as this is a trust money which is morally and legally not justified,” he asserted.
