LAHORE, Sept 17: The Punjab government has decided to amend the Punjab Removal from Service (Special Powers) Ordinance 2000 and 2001 and extend the period of inquiry from 25 to 45 days.

The step is being taken on inquiry officers’ plea that it is hard for them to fulfil the requirements of justice within the existing timeframe, officials informed Dawn on Tuesday.

They said a summary has been sent to the governor for approval. The ordinance with an extended time limit would soon be promulgated, they added.

The government promulgated the ordinance for speedy disposal of departmental inquiries against its employees. Inquiries against government employees could be completed in 90 days under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules 1975 up to 1999, when the law was amended and time limit reduced to 60 days. —Staff Reporter
