JHANG, Sept 17: Nine armed guards of Pakistan Awami Tehrik chairman Allama Tahirul Qadri were arrested for displaying arms at public places during an election rally here on Sunday.

Dr Qadri took out the election rally which marched through various busy and congested streets. Travelling in different vehicles, guards of the Allama kept exhibiting lethal arms throughout the route. The policemen escorting the rally informed DPO Tariq Masood who ordered Kotwali SHO to register a case against the violators on Monday.

On Tuesday, a heavy police contingent led by the Jhang DPO stopped Dr Qadri’s convoy at Nawaz Chowk and took into custody his nine guards. They are identified as Muhammad Yaqoob, Tariq Khan, Ikhlaq Ahmad, Zeeshan, Muhammad Saeed, Muhammad Shakeel, Shafqat Ali, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Umar Drag. Police also seized weapons including two Kalashnikovs, a pistol, a 44 bore rifle, one 12 bore gun, one pump action gun and 235 cartridges.
