ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: The National Database and Registration Authority on Saturday clarified that the citizens were not required to return old national identity cards.

This has been decided keeping in view the likelihood of the misuse of the old NICs.

However, people already issued with new computerized national identity cards are advised not to use old manual cards for any transaction, said a press release.

Nadra has also requested the citizens not to pay anything to the delivery staff and inform the local Nadra offices in case of any such complaints.

It said the vigilance team of Nadra apprehended one Faraz Iqbal and ex-contract field worker of the Authority for misusing an old NIC 101- 79-529649 of Hamza Shaheen, a resident of F-10 Islamabad.

Fazal Iqbal, who was a contract field worker collected the old NIC 101-79-529649 of Hamza Shaheen on delivery of new computerised national identity card. He did not submit the collected old card and kept it with him.

He then used Shaheen’s old NIC at a video centre in G-6/2 for hiring a TV and a VCR.

In response to the complaint of Hamza Shaheen the vigilance team of Nadra traced the culprit and handed over the case to Aabpara police station. Further investigations were in progress.—APP
