ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly on Monday directed the Ministry of Local Bodies to submit its report regarding the alleged embezzlement in issuance of development funds through parliamentarians and also directed the ministry to freeze funds for suspected schemes.

The meeting which was held here under the chairmanship of Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and PAC Chairman Ch Nisar Ali Khan reviewed the audit reports of Ministry of Local Bodies.

The meeting also took strict note of some reports that some contractors are allegedly involved in the corruption and mis-use of development funds in connivance with the parliamentarians.

The committee constituted a special committee under the chairmanship of Sardar Bahadur Khan Sihar, comprising Nadeem Afzal Chan and Aasia Nasir. The committee will submit its report till Nov 30.

The PAC was informed that Pakistan Railways has a total 39,132.42 acres land, out of which 15,699.60 is under usage adding that 20357.41 acre land is lying vacant and there is no usage of this land, which is 52 per cent of the total land.
