PIA crowned champions

LAHORE,  Sept 12: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)  won the All Pakistan Ranking badminton tournament ladies’ team title thrashing Wapda 3-0 in the final Wednesday night.

National  champion Asma Butt provided PIA 1-0 lead  when  she outclassed Saadia in the first singles 11-1, 11-10.

In the second singles, Uzma Butt ,the sister of the  national champion,  walloped Shazia 11-2, 11-7 to double the lead.  Shamim won the third singles against Zahida 15-3, 15-11 to make sure of whitewash.

In  the  ladies’  singles  event Aasma overwhelmed Aneela 11-0, 11-0. Ayesha  made  short work of Shamyala 11-0, 11-2, Shamim outplayed Saima (Wapda) 11-9, 11-6 while Uzma cleaned out Shahida without dropping any point 11-0, 11- 0.

Two  matches  were decided in the ladies’  doubles.  Aneela  and Saima blitzed Naheed and Shamyala 15-1, 15-1 while Ayesha and Shazia ousted Faiza and Ghazala 15-3, 15-0.

Results men’s singles pre-quarterfinals:

Wajid Ali (New Khan) defeated Asif Hussain (Hyderabad) 15-6,  15- 7.  Zafar  Tasneem  (Wapda) bt Shoaib  Butt  (ABL)  17-15,  15-8. Shabbar Hussain (New Khan) outclassed Mushtaq (NWFP) 15-11, 15-2. Waqas Ahmed (PTCL) came out victor against Imran Mohib (New Khan) 15-11,  15-2. Omer Zeeshan (PTCL) defeated Faisal  (Wapda)  15-8, 17-14. Former national champion Ali Yar Beg (ABL) scored a hard fought  three-set victory against Ashraf Masih (PTCL) 13-15,  15- 12, 15-13.
