QUETTA, Sept 12: The election tribunal of Balochistan, comprising Justice Amanullah Yasin Zai and Justice Fazalur Rehman, allowed Mir Baz Khan Khetran, senior vice-president of People’s Party Parliamentarian, Khuda-i-Noor, secretary- general of Jamhoori Watan Party, Mrs Shama Perveen Magsi and Robina Irfan of PML-QA to contest election as their pleas were accepted, on Thursday.

The tribunal also accepted an appeal of Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, president of the newly-formed Balochistan Democratic National Party and Fateh Mohammad Abro and allowed them to contest election.

The tribunal rejected three appeals filed by Ghulam Akbar Lasi, provincial general secretary of PPP, Balochistan, which he filed against rejection of his nomination papers for one National and two Provincial Assembly seats from Lasbela.

The returning officers had rejected nomination papers of Khuda-i-Noor and Mrs Shama Perveen Magsi on education grounds, as they had submitted degrees of madresas, which were accepted by the tribunal equivalent to graduation and allowed them to take part in the elections.

The tribunal rejected two applications of Aziz Mama of National Awami Party (NAP) and Dr Kalimullah of PAMP, who had filed pleas against the acceptance of the nomination papers of Sardar Gul Mohammad Dommar of JUI-F. The applications of Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai of PMAP, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani of PPP, Tariq Mehmood and Mohammad Younas were also rejected, who had filed applications against acceptance of papers of different candidates.

Tribunal rejected appeals against Mir Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali, former Balochistan chief minister, former ministers Syed Ehsan Shah, Mir Tariq Mehmood Khetran. Dr Ruqaya Hashmi had filed against acceptance of their nomination papers. However, an appeal filed by Mir Munawar Ali against Mir Taj Mohammad Khan Jamali of Millat Party was accepted against acceptance of his nomination papers.

Others whose applications were accepted include, Abdul Ghafoor, Maulvi Shaikh Dad, Haji Mitha Khan, Syed Mateeullah Agha, Maulvi Abdul Karim, Ainuddin, Mohammad Jan and Mansoor Ali.

Mir Mohammad Aslam Bhootani against whom an appeal was accepted by the tribunal, and Ghulam Akbar Lasi of PPP have filed constitutional petitions in the Balochistan High court against the decision of election tribunal of Balochistan. Mir Taj Mohammad Jamali will also file a constitutional petition on Friday with Balochistan High Court against acceptance of an appeal against him by the tribunal.

The tribunal would dispose off all remaining appeals on Friday filed by various candidates as Sept 13 is the last date for disposing of appeals. While candidates could withdraw their nomination papers till Sept 14, the final list of the candidates would be released by Sunday next.
