HYDERABAD, Sept 12: The provincial administrative council, Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), at a meeting held at the Government Sachal Sarmast Commerce and Arts College, here on Thursday deplored the inefficiency of the Sindh education department.

It demanded of the Sindh government to appoint an educationist as the secretary for education to improve the system.

The meeting condemned the violence against teachers and students of the Karachi University and demanded punishment to those officials who were responsible for this action.

It further demanded to implement decisions taken at a meeting between the Sindh chief secretary and SPLA representatives on Aug 17 and issue notifications of promotions to grade 18, 19 and 20 and move-over cases before Sept 30.

Other demands of the SPLA included computer fee exemption for intermediate students, separation of computer syllabus of arts students, restoration of teachers foundation and college teachers academy, their separation from each other, and removal of Karachi University Vice-Chancellor.

The meeting further demanded to establish girls colleges in Mithi, Umerkot and Tando Jan Mohammad, confirm deputationists in service and remover shortage of computers, scientific equipment and furniture in colleges.

It called for exemption of income tax, concession in computer and tuition fee to teachers’ children, cancellation of contracts of teachers working in boards of education and appointment of an independent administrative officer for colleges in each district.

It also demanded to remove EDOs, education, of Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad and dismiss the DEO, colleges, Hyderabad, from service.

Prof Liaquat Aziz presided over the meeting.
