KASUR, Oct 5: A bailiff on Tuesday recovered a man in a miserable condition from a 'torture cell' of Raiwind Sadar police after a month.

The victim was referred to Lahore General Hospital from DHQ Hospital due to his critical condition.

Reports said one month ago Hafiz Tariq along with his cousin, Muhammad Mushtaq, and wife Najma was on way to Kot Radha Kishan from Pandoki village on a motorcycle.

Near Kot Radha Kishan Adda, a police party, headed by SHO Tariq Khan and SI Abdul Ghani, stopped them and bundled Tariq and Mushtaq into an official van. The police officials beat up Najma on resistance.

Najma Bibi filed a petition with the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Jazeela Aslam for the recovery of her husband and cousin. The court appointed a bailiff, but it failed to recover Tariq and Mushtaq.

SHO Tariq Khan and SI Abdul Ghani told the court that both were not in their custody. They said both were wanted by Kahna police and other police stations and were declared proclaimed offenders.

The court again appointed a bailiff on the petition of Tariq's father Taj Muhammad.

The bailiff recovered Tariq from the police torture cell and produced him before AD&SJ Jazeela Aslam. The bailiff is yet to recover Mushtaq. The court has summoned SHO Tariq and SI Abdul Ghani on Wednesday (today).

Hafiz Tariq told reporters outside the court that the two police officials had been shifting him to various places and subjecting him to severe torture. SHUTDOWN:

A complete shutter down strike was observed in the city in connection with the killing of a trader on Tuesday.

Traders expressed their concern over the lawlessness in the city and the failure of police to arrest the killer(s) of trader Muzaffar Ali.

Traders, headed by Muhammad Asif of Railway Road Anjuman Tajran, held a sit-in near Chandni Chowk and raised slogans against the police.

Shops at Railway Road, Nia Bazaar, Sarafa Bazaar, Haji Farid, Circular and Adda Laliani roads remained closed.

On Monday evening, two unidentified men stormed into the shop of Muzaffar Ali and shot him dead.
