KARACHI, Oct 4: Pakistan secured 62nd spot in the 149-nation 39th Chess Olympiad which concluded in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

According to information received here on Monday, Pakistan defeated Ecuador 2.5-1.5 in the last and 11th round.

Pakistan’s Mahmood Lodhi was held to a draw by Carlos Matamoros Franco while Tanvir Gilani lost to Alberto Santos Flores.

Aamir Karim beat Daniel Mieles Palau and Wasim Akram defeated Bryan Macias Murillo to assure Pakistans victory.

Pakistan ended with six victories and five defeats.

Ukraine won the title with hosts Russia-I finishing as runners-up, Israel was third, Hungary got fourth position and China was fifth.—APP
