Growers protest water shortage

KHAIRPUR, Sept 10: Tail-end growers of Mohabbat Wah and Mehar Shakh continued their protest for the second consecutive day against shortage and theft of water here on Tuesday.

The growers took out a procession and raised slogans against irrigation officials.

The representatives of the growers told newsmen water had not been provided in Mohabbat Wah and Mehar Shakh for a long time.

They regretted the police had not yet taken any action against water thieves despite registration of cases against the accused.

KU INCIDENT: The executive council of the Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Society, Khairpur, has expressed concern over the situation created by the vice-chancellor of the Karachi University regarding the teaching community.

The council, at a meeting held here on Tuesday, condemned the atrocities of the law enforcement agencies against the teachers, students and employees of the university.

It also denounced the forced retirement of Prof Dr Pervez Siddique and demanded his immediate reinstatement.

The president of the Society, Prof Dr Mumtaz Ali Qureshi, presided over the meeting.

DIED: Eight-year-old Shakeel Ahmad, son of Mukhtiar Siyal, died in Wari Goth village when he was hit by a stray bullet on Monday.

Some villagers were sitting at a shop and were playing with a gun when it went off and a bullet hit Ahmad.

The boy died on the way to the Khairpur Civil Hospital.

The A-section police arrested Ghulam Shabbir Phulpoto for investigation.

PROTEST DAY: The Paramedical Staff Association, Khairpur, observed a protest day here on Tuesday.

It was demanding the immediate recovery of Qadam Ali, watchman of the Bholaw Health Centre, Sobhodero taluka, who was kidnapped about ten days back in Bholar village.
