PESHAWAR, Sept 9: Non-bailable arrest warrants for two editors were issued by the Implementation Tribunal for Newspapers Employees on Monday.

Justice Javed Nawaz Gandapur, the presiding officer of the tribunal, issued the warrants for Mehmoodullah Afridi, editor of Frontier Post, for not paying dues to the former employees of the newspaper.

On Aug 8, the tribunal had chargesheeted the newspaper’s administration for not honouring his promise of paying the dues to the former workers in regular instalments.

On Monday, the Frontier Post’s administration appeared before the tribunal. On the complaints of the former workers of the newspaper, Justice Gandapur issued the arrest warrants for Mr Afridi.

The other journalist against whom the warrants were issued was Sardar Khan Niazi, editor of daily Pakistan’s Islamabad-edition, for not appearing before the tribunal. He is charged with non-implementing the wage award and sacking two workers without valid grounds.

The editor had been asked to appear before the tribunal many times to clear the newspaper’s position on the issue.
