PESHAWAR, Sept 7: An American diplomat called on former NWFP chief minister Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan at his residence on Thursday and discussed with him the “prevailing political situation” in the country, a press release issued here said.

It stated that Chat Delakeman, a political secretary at the US Embassy in Islamabad discussed political issues, specially the  upcoming elections in the country.

Mahtab, who was released on bail by the Rawalpindi Division of the Lahore High Court (LHC) late last month, has declined to field one of his family members in the October polls despite being pressurised by his supporters. “I have decided to rest and reflect on the situation”, he told Dawn.

The PML-N leader was convicted by an accountability court after one his cabinet minister, who was incharge of the food department, turned state approver. Mahtab has filed an appeal against the conviction.
