ISLAMABAD, Sept 7: The enquiry committee set up to investigate Allama Iqbal Open University’s library scam has recommended separate punishments against three officials found guilty of financial corruption, an official source said.

The two-member committee, comprising Dr Sharif Bhatti, vice- chancellor, university of engineering and technology, Taxila, and Dr Mohsin Raza, dean, faculty of physical Science, Balochistan University, held personal hearing of the accused before taking the final decision.

According to the committee decision, Ms Zumurd Mehmood, has been demoted from grade 19 to 18. She was working as librarian when the funds were misused, the source said, adding that it was a great set back for Ms Zumurd since her retirement was due next year.

Mohammad Arif, who was superintendent accounts of library when the embezzlement took place, has been put forward for forced retirement.

It may be mentioned here, the source said, Mr Arif had already applied for premature retirement.

Similarly, Jan Mohammad Charan, assistant librarian, has also been demoted from grade 17 to 16.
