KARACHI, Sept 8 Medicam CC lifted the 23rd Aga Khan Gymkhana Alokozay Ramazan Twenty20 cricket title after defeating favourites Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) by 14 runs in the final played at the AKG Ground here on Wednesday.

KESC, who were restricted to 150-8 while chasing a 165-run target, fell at the last hurdle for the second year running after Ali Sports upset them to win the tournament in 2009.

Medium-pacer Ali Mudassar was the KESC's tormentor with a fiery burst of four for 13 in four overs. Rizwan Khan, batting at No 8, was the highest run-getter for his side with an undefeated 34 in a 20-ball knock that was spiced with three sixes.

Daniyal Ahsan (26 off 20 balls, four boundaries) and Misbah Khan (20 off 17, two fours) were other main scorers while the in-form wicket-keeper/batsman Sarfraz Ahmed was tragically run out after making just four.

Slow left-armer Faraz Ahmed Khan also bowled for the new champions with figures of two for 33.

Earlier, skipper Khalid Latif led from the front after KESC captain Arif Mahmood elected to invite Medicam CC to bat first after winning the toss.

Khalid dominated the opening partnership of 63 with the left-handed Mohammad Waqas (20 off 26 balls) before Yasir Mushtaq helped him add 74 for second wicket. Khalid was eventually dismissed for a 51-ball 68 — an innings that saw the Pakistan discard hammer three sixes and four fours.

Yasir struck three boundaries in contributing 38 off 26 deliveries while Khalid's older brother Shahid Latif scored 17 not out to boost the total to 164-3.

Khalid and Ali Mudassar were declared joint recipients of the Rs3,000 Man-of-the-Final award.

Syed Fahimuddin Ahmed, marketing sales manager of Alokozay Tea, was distributed the prizes in his capacity as the chief guest at the ceremony also graced by Aga Khan Gymkhana chairman Hakim Ali Khan, secretary Abdul Khaliq Pasnani, Al-Amin Turyani, Ghulam Ali Pradhan, Nooruddin Lakhani, AKG's cricket convenor Zulfiqar P. Khan and tournament coordinator Mohammad Nizam.

Khalid Latif received the winners' prize-money of Rs100,000 and the trophy on behalf of his victorious team, while Arif Mahmood collected the runners-up cash award of Rs50,000 and the runners-up trophy.

Saleem A. Raheem of Aga Khan Gymkhana was declared the competition's best batsman for scoring 160 runs with his team-mate Nazim Abbas taking the best fielder award for holding seven catches. Sarfraz Ahmed of KESC won the best wicket-keeper prize for making nine dismissals (three catches and three stumpings) and Medicam CC's off-spinner Bilal Asif got the best bowler award for his 12 wickets. All of them received Rs5,000 each.
