KARACHI, Sept 2: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir on Thursday visited flood-affected areas of Sindh to review the current situation and rescue and relief operations. Area Commander Vice-Admiral Tayyab Ali Dogar briefed him on the progress of PN's operations.

The naval chief expressed his full satisfaction over the progress of relief and rescue operations, and urged all PN commands and units to make all-out effort and provide maximum possible assistance to affected people in relief and rehabilitation.

Later, Admiral Noman visited the Turkish and Chinese relief and medical camps operating in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the PN search and rescue teams continued their rescue operations in Jacobabad, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal and Keti Bandar areas. Ten additional rescue teams with de-flooding equipment arrived in Thatta from Karachi to augment flood relief and rescue efforts.

During last 24 hours, another 870 people were evacuated from marooned areas to safe places and 1,100 persons were provided medical treatment by PN teams, according to an ISPR (Navy) press release issued on Thursday.

PN relief camps established in Sukkur, Khairpur, Makli and other areas were extending all available assistance to the affected people, it said, adding that 750 tents had been erected at Makli and the number was being increased.
