Torch lighting today

LAHORE, Sept 5: One hundred sportsmen and sportswomen who have claimed medals in any of the Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth or SAF  Games will take part in the “Torch lighting and torch relay event” being  held here Sept 5 in connection with the 14th Asian Games to be held in Busan, South Korea from Sept 30 to  Oct 14.

This is the first occasion that such an event is being  held in every country of the Asia on the eve of the Asian Games.

Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) secretary Muhammad  Latif Butt said that the event was being held on the instructions of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Asian Games organising committee.

The rally will start from the National Hockey Stadium at 9.30pm and  will  end at the  Town Hall about 10.30pm. The organising committee has provided POA about nine small  and one main torch.

Small torches will lit at different points of the rally. Former hockey Olympian Munir Dar will lit the main  torch at the Town Hall. Later,  the main torch will be preserved  and the Pakistan contingent for the Games will take it to South Korea.
