Hailstorm disrupts power supply

SWABI Sept 4: A hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain hit the entire Swabi district and its suburbs in the early hours of Wednesday, disrupting power supply and flooding the low- lying areas.

The rain-water flooded Khunda, Tordher, Tano and Sheikh Dheri and many other areas, while the electricity supply remained suspended for eight hours. The hailstorm badly damaged the standing maize crop.

The government has already declared some areas calamity-hit.

POs HELD: The Swabi police arrested six proclaimed offenders and recovered nine Kalashnikovs from their possession.

The police raided a house in the Nabi village and arrested Nabat Khan wanted in a number of crimes.

In another raid, the police arrested Shah Faisal, Noorul Amin, Sher Afzal, Ali Baz Khan and Shad Ali. All of them were wanted in various crimes.

The police also recovered two double barrels shot guns, nine Kalashnikovs, two 30-bore pistols with 37 magazines and 863 cartridges from them.
