Sale of petrol on shops banned

LAHORE, Sept 3: The city government has decided to ban the sale of petrol on shops with immediate effect.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the executive district officers here on Tuesday with district Nazim Amer Mahmood in the chair. It was also decided to seek the cooperation of oil companies and the petrol pump owners for the implementation of the decision.

It was also decided to take necessary steps to implement the federal government decision to ban the showing of Indian channels by the cable operators. It was decided to seek the cooperation of the law-enforcing agencies for the implementation of the decision and confiscate the equipment of the cable operators found violating it.

The Nazim told the EDOs that he had issued the notification transferring the service of over 7,000 sanitary workers to 150 union councils. He said the government had earmarked Rs85 million for the purchase of sanitation machinery and equipment after necessary studies.

He said judicial magistrates were being posted for improving the sanitation tax recovery. He said no citizen was exempt from the payment of the tax.

He said only Rs70 million were being recovered on this account against an expenditure of Rs700 million per annum. —Reporter
