Devolution in N. Areas planned

GILGIT, Sept 3: The government was planning to extend the devolution of power plan to the Northern Areas and delegate powers to the Northern Areas Legislative Council, Federal Information Minister Nisar A. Memon said this while taking oath of office of Chief Executive of Northern Areas here on Tuesday.

The minister has recently been assigned the additional portfolio of Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas after the resignation of Abbas Sarfaraz Khan.

The chairman of Northern Areas Chief Court Muzaffar H. Malik administered the oath of office to the minister.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Memon said that various proposals are under consideration to introduce local government system in the Northern Areas to ensure participation of the people in the governance.
