KARACHI, Sept 3: Potholes that form on roads often by leaking underground water or sewerage lines, or those resulting from water accumulation after rains at poorly levelled spots appear unattended in many cases for months.

Potholes at the intersection of the Passport Office towards Sarwar Shaheed Road have been unattended for several months, and keep growing wider with the passage of time. This often forces motorists to drive into the wrong lane to avoid the bumps, and also poses a risk to those unaware of its presence. On the same road, a ditch dug by a service agency months ago in front of the Utility Stores outlet, in the vicinity of the former MPA Hostel and regional NAB office still awaits proper land refill, levelling and topping by the agencies concerned.

Since street lights are either inadequate or defective on this road, motorists passing by these two spots at night get a nasty surprise. While a four-wheeled vehicle may bear the shock, the jolt caused to a two-wheeler, especially when loaded with a family, certainly throws it off balance.

Two ditches dug on either sides of Jehangir Road a few days before the recent rains, were filled up with water because they were not properly levelled and topped with bitumen. On the day of the rainfall, a few personnel of an agency were seen pitching broken debris into in to make it passable for vehicles..—APP
