ISLAMABAD The names of the 247 lawmakers whose degrees have been declared as genuine by Higher Education Commission (HEC) after scrutiny have come to light.

The list of the lawmakers possessing genuine degrees that was recently handed over by the HEC to Election Commission (EC) contained the names of 31 Senators, 72 members of the National Assembly and 144 members of the provincial assemblies.

The last name on the list is that of former provincial minister Rubina Irfan. Interestingly, the HEC had included her name in the list of 47 lawmakers holding fake or invalid degrees as well.

The degrees of hundreds of legislators are still being scrutinised, not because their degrees are suspect but mainly because the accompanying documents required were either missing or incomplete.

The accompanying documents required are matric and intermediate certificates.
