Income tax staff demo against police

SAHIWAL, Nov 8: Around a hundred employees of the local income tax department held a demonstration in front of the Farid Town police station and demanded recovery of their missing office superintendent allegedly kidnapped by a head-constable.

The protesters claimed that Rana Munawar had a dinner with head-constable Abdul Ghani on Nov 6 in a restaurant at College Chowk. He was missing since then, they said.

A complaint was lodged with the Farid Town police in which head-constable Ghani and a taxi driver, Fida Husain, of Chak 96/9-L were named as prime suspects.

RANSACKED: Six armed men ransacked the offices of Urdu daily Paigham on Wednesday evening and manhandled its editor, Hafiz Waheed Ahmad.

Mr Ahmad said they tore the copies ready for printing, and also took away cash from the drawer of his table. He claimed that the attack was the result of a news item published against police. He alleged that police were involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, journalists protested against the incident. They met the Sahiwal SSP and demanded early arrest of the attackers.
