DADU, Aug 27: A group of growers from Dadu Taluka staged a demonstration outside the press club on Tuesday to protest against the water shortage in Piaro minor.

The protesters were led by Javed and Habibullah Leghari, the leaders of the Abadgar Association.

Speaking to the demonstrators, their leaders said that the irrigation officials were selling water to the influential landlords.

They also accused the officials of creating an artificial shortage of water.

POLICE: A large number of women and children of Karimdad Lund village, Dadu taluka, took out a procession on Tuesday against the Dadu town police and a landlord of the area.

Led by Kariman, Pathani and Sharifan, the protestors were carrying banners and placards and were raising slogans.

After marching on main roads of the town, they arrived at the Dadu Press Club where they staged a demonstration.

Talking to newsmen, Karima alleged the Dadu town police, after receiving a handsome amount as bribe, had registered a false case of cow theft against Ghulam Nabi, Nisar, Mustafa, Soomar and others.

She said the police had arrested innocent villagers and were torturing them at the police station.

Later, the protesters observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.

accident: Eight passengers were injured when a recklessly-driven Khairpur Nathan Shah-bound passenger coach collided with a tree on a bypass here on Tuesday morning.

Faiz Mohammad Laghari, Nazeer, Sakina, Noor Mohammad, Niaz Hussain, Ahmad Khan, Roshan, and Saleh were injured.

The driver of the coach escaped. The police impounded the coach.

KILLED: Gul Mohammad Channa, resident of Mehar town, died on the spot and Gul Khan was injured when their motorcycle collided with a Suzuki on Jamshoro railway crossing on Tuesday.

ARRESTED: On a tip-off, the Kotri town police raided the Kotri-Karo Khoh Link Road on Tuesday and arrested Akram Machhi, leader of a gang of motorcycle snatchers.

The police also recovered a motorcycle (HDN-6835) from his possession.
