Call to start M.Com classes

Published August 27, 2002

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 26: Thousands of commerce graduates of three districts have urged the authorities concerned to start M. Com classes at the Government College of Commerce here.

In a joint appeal to the Punjab Tevta chief, the graduates of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts said that the local institute of commerce was upgraded to the level of a college in 1980, and B. Com classes were started. Since then, neither the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, nor the commerce college had started M. Com classes.

As a result, thousands of poor students could not improve their qualification. They said that Tevta should consider their plea as most students wanted to take admission in M.Com classes.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the district management board of Tevta at a recent meeting recommended to the provincial body to start M. Com classes here for the convenience of local students.

The Islamia University had favoured this proposal.

Interviews for the vacant posts of teachers began at the Circuit House here on Monday.

There are about 20,000 applicants for 900 vacancies of teachers in the district. The interviews will continue till Wednesday.
