PIA to purchase Airbus

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: The national flag-carrier PIA has decided to buy the French-made Airbus aircraft as part of a programme to replace its ageing fleet, it was learnt here Saturday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) held in Rawalpindi, the sources said.

PIA, for the last couple of months, was weighing various options to purchase new or slightly used aircraft. The government has already allocated $150 million to PIA for this purpose.

According to reports, PIA has complete overhauling facility for Airbus which has also reportedly offered to transfer the technology. —APP
