GUJRAT, Aug 23: District Naib Nazim Syed Noor Hassan Shah sent his resignation to the district Nazim on Friday.

Sources close to Mr Shah told Dawn that he had stated in his resignation that he wanted to contest the general elections.

Noorul Hassan Shah is expected to contest on the PML (QA) ticket from NA-107 comprising Sarai Alamgir and its adjoining areas.

The younger brother of former MNA Syed Manzoor Shah, he had held the slot of Lalamusa MC chairman during the last PML (N) government.

He is the first Naib Nazim in the province who has given up the slot on account of October elections.

Sources close to district Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain confirmed that he (Shafaat) had also sent the resignation to the Punjab governor.
