KARACHI, Aug 23: Muttahida Qaumi Movement has urged the election commission to extend the date for filing of nominations, at least for two days.

The MQM coordination committee has made this demand in view of cumbersome conditionalities attached to the candidacy.

It said if the government is interested in free, fair and transparent elections, and desires full participation of political parties, it should simplify the process.

JI: The women wing of Jamat-i-Islami (JI) on Friday requested the Election Commission to extend the date for submitting nomination papers for seats reserved for women, arguing that provision of all details and information in limited time was causing difficulties for candidates, adds PPI.

In a joint statement, Nazima JI women wing Sindh Talat Zubair and Nazima Karachi Rabia Alam said if date was not extended, a large number of candidates will not be able to contest on technical grounds.

They said in view of specifying single place for obtaining and submitting back nomination papers and acquire documents, including affidavits and receipts of various taxes, was causing immense problems for candidates.

They called for making the procedure for filing nomination papers more simple.
