KARACHI, Aug 22: Fifteen vehicles — seven cars and eight motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Three motorcycles were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered four cars and three motorcycles.

UTP DIES: An under-trial prisoner died in Central Jail, Karachi, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police said that an under-trial prisoner, Wakil Ahmed Siddiqui, aged 70, complained of severe pain in his chest. He died before medical help could be provided to him.

His body was taken to Civil Hospital for post-mortem. The post-mortem report has been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological report.

Police said that the Anti-narcotics Force arrested the under-trial prisoner in Bahadurabad, in 1998, in a narcotics case.

An FIR (No 6/98) was lodged at Bahadurabad police station following his arrest. Police said that a court had rejected his bail application on Wednesday.

SHOT DEAD: A security guard was shot dead in Gulzar-i-Hijri on late Wednesday night.

Police said that Shahnawaz, aged 45, security guard at Pioneer Homes Phase- 2, was shot and wounded by unidentified men in a narrow street. He suffered multiple bullet wounds. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

Police believed that the killing was the result of personal enmity, as no robbery was committed in the vicinity.

After post-mortem, his body was handed over to his brother, who lodged an FIR at the area police station.

The victim hailed from Peshawar. Here he lived in Manghopir area.

WALL COLLAPSE: A five-year-old boy died when a wall collapsed on him in his house in Manghopir on Thursday.

Police said that Bahadur was playing in the courtyard when a wall suddenly collapsed on him. He died on the spot.

DIE OF BURNS: Two men died of burns in Civil Hospital on late Wednesday night.

A young man, Riaz, resident of Pirabad, was admitted to the burns ward of the CHK on Aug 16. He had suffered more than 50 per cent burns.

Police said that Riaz was working in the kitchen in his house in Pirabad when he suffered burns. He died in the hospital on Wednesday night.

Sources at the hospital said that Abdul Hamid, aged 30, was admitted to the burns ward on Aug 18.

He had suffered burns in his house in Paposhnagar, Nazimabad. He died in the hospital on Wednesday night.
