RAWALPINDI, Aug 21: Punjab social welfare department has established District Coordination Councils throughout the province to ensure liaison between the government and non- governmental organizations (NGOs).

In Rawalpindi district, social worker Qazi Saghirul Haq has been appointed as the chief coordinator and the district officer social welfare has been assigned the job of council’s secretary.

The provincial minister for social welfare Shaheen Attiqur Rehman, while speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday, said this forum was provided to the NGOs to discuss their problems and projects, share experiences and strengthen liaison with the government departments.

There are around 475 NGOs in Rawalpindi alone and over 5,000 throughout the province. “Only 10 per cent (500) have proper set up,” she added.—Staff Reporter
