MIRPURKHAS, Aug 20: About a 100-foot wide breach occurred in Mithrao Canal near Samaro on Tuesday as a result several villages and crops on thousands of acres of land were inundated.

A wide area came under knee-deep mater and different crops were also inundated.

A large number of the villagers left their houses for safer places.

The breach could not be plugged till filing of this report. The irrigation staff, with the help of the villagers, was busy in plugging the breach.

The Executive Engineer, Mithrao division, Irrigation Department, Ghulam Mohammad Memon, and SDO Somaro Amjad Memon were supervizing the efforts to plug the breach.

Reports said that despite proper water supply in the main Mithrao Canal, the Irrigation officials had suspended supply to various distributaries and continued water rotation programme.

This led to greater water flow in the canal and resultant pressure of water caused the breach.
