SYDNEY, Aug 18: Darren Lehmann’s chances of playing in Australia’s tri-nations limited overs cricket tour to Kenya are in doubt after he failed to secure a medical clearance on Sunday.

Lehmann fractured his little finger on his left hand eight days ago playing in the final match of his stint with English county Yorkshire.

He flew to Melbourne Sunday to have the injury assessed by Australian team doctor Trefor James but the Australian Cricket Board said it was inconclusive.

The ACB said the selectors were to discuss Lehmann’s position later Sunday with the possibility he could undergo further examination before the team departs for the triangular series with Pakistan and Kenya in Nairobi.

It is understood the selectors may decide Lehmann would be better off resting the injury and rejoining the Australian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy which follows in Colombo from Sept 12-29.

In that case a replacement, possibly Ian Harvey or Andrew Symonds, could come in for Lehmann as they are in the Australia ‘A’ squad training for a seven-match limited overs tour to South Africa.—AFP
